Export reports and case records

Choose PDF report sections and understand the separate graph and custody exports.

Prepare the case

PDF export generates a report from the selected case’s available records. Review the case title and metadata, saved findings, tasks, and graph before exporting. Export access depends on your plan.

If the report should include encrypted investigation notes, open Notes and unlock them with your note passphrase first. Exporting these notes places their readable contents in the PDF. Locked notes are omitted even when Include everything is selected, and Nexus displays an omission message.

Generate a PDF

  1. Select Export PDF in the desktop case header or the mobile case workspace.
  2. In Export Investigation Report (PDF), leave Include everything selected or turn it off to choose individual sections.
  3. Choose the sections you need: Case General Details, Case Overview, Entities, Chat — investigator messages, Evidence / Files, Tasks, Activity / Timeline, Appendices, and Entity Graph (landscape image). Investigation Notes appears when note encryption has been set up.
  4. If custody is enabled and has entries, review Include Chain of Custody (starts on page 2). Include everything controls this option when the master switch is on.
  5. Select Generate PDF. Wait while Nexus loads the case data, renders a graph when selected and available, and generates the file.
  6. Open the downloaded report and check that its sections, notes, source references, and graph match what you intended to include.
Example
For a concise handoff, turn off Include everything and select case details, evidence, tasks, and the graph. Include investigation notes only after reviewing their contents and unlocking them.

Choose the appropriate export

Chat — investigator messages is not an export of every assistant answer. Save an answer to Notes and include unlocked Investigation Notes when you want that synthesis in the report. Long content is shortened: chat-message previews are capped at 500 characters, timeline previews at 200, appendix raw-data excerpts at 1,000, and the graph entity summary at 50 rows. Preserve originals when you need the complete record.

Evidence / Files records available evidence and document information; do not assume the PDF embeds original attachments. If generation fails, read the Export failed message and resolve the issue before retrying. The report hash represents the prepared case-data snapshot, not proof that source claims or conclusions are correct.
