Write encrypted investigation notes
Set up your note passphrase, write case notes, attach files, and include notes in reports.
Set up or unlock notes
Notes is a plan-gated case tool. Its passphrase is separate from your sign-in credentials. On first use, the Set Up Note Encryption dialog asks you to choose and confirm a passphrase of at least eight characters. Later, Unlock Encrypted Notes asks for that passphrase.
- Open the intended case and select Notes.
- Complete Set Up Note Encryption or Unlock Encrypted Notes.
- Select New in the note list. Enter a Note title and write in the rich-text editor.
- Pause typing to allow automatic saving and wait for the saving spinner to finish. Use the editor’s back arrow to save pending changes and return to the list.
Keep your analysis and attachments together
Use the formatting toolbar for supported rich-text styles, then record what the sources say, your interpretation, and unresolved questions. Search notes… finds text in unlocked note titles and content within the current case.
An assistant response’s Save to Notes action creates an encrypted note labelled as an AI-generated answer. If notes are locked, that action first opens the passphrase dialog. Review the saved answer and its sources before incorporating it into your own analysis.
Inside a note, use Drop file or click to attach to add an encrypted attachment. The drop target processes one file at a time. Attachment rows offer download and deletion. Notes use a 20 MB total attachment-storage allowance per user, and executable or script file types are blocked.
Create ‘Source comparison’ to record two conflicting published addresses, attach a reference file, and write the additional check you plan to make. A finding’s Edit Notes action is a separate field and does not use this encrypted-note editor.
Export notes and handle save errors
Unlock Notes before exporting a PDF that includes Investigation Notes. Their contents appear as readable text in the downloaded report. Include everything does not unlock notes; locked notes are omitted with a message.
If a save error appears, keep the editor open and resolve the connection or account issue before continuing. Automatic saving is not evidence that a failed request succeeded. If an attachment exceeds the total allowance, remove an attachment you no longer need or choose a smaller file; the chat uploader has different limits and behavior.
